The practice was established in Tunbridge Wells by Cecil Burns, FRIBA, before the First World War. On his retirement in 1965, the Practice was restyled Burns Guthrie and Partners. Since this date, the practice has maintained the same principles of professionalism and attention to detail.

In December 2006, the Partnership was reformed with Clare Gregory and Jeff Hitchcock joining Paul Damon as Senior Partner. Previous partners still work within the practice, maintaining continuity of service with long-standing clients.
