This landmark design civic building not only sees the new home for Ashford
Library but also incorporates facilities for Kent Adult Education, Kent
Adult Social Services and the Ashford Registrar.
Rather
than distinct spatial facilities allocated to respective organisations the
design incorporates a richness of rooms and spaces that can be used by all
stakeholders.
The scheme follows the successful development of the Gateway concept currently
being run out across Kent.
The design seeks to be sustainable in its use of thermal mass and night-time
cooling to avoid the use of air conditioning.
A central atrium is utilised as part of assisted re-circulated air ventilation.
